Christmas Hair

I didn't do much to my hair for Christmas but pulled the sided back and pinned it.

Two Strand Twist

This was my very first attempt at two strand twist. It look really sloppy to me, and I didn't really like it but I'll post pictures anyway. I did this on on dry hair. I used 100% shea butter on my hair first and then twist. I went to bed and took the twist down in the morning and this is what it turned out like.

UP DO (Pony Puff)

I really like this style just to do something different with my hair. I usually do my hair just like I would a wash n go and just put a rubberband on my head and push it up until I get the puff as high as I want it and leave it. Since my hair is still a little short in the back I bobby pin the loose ends.

Wash N Go

This is the style i do most of the time when its not too cold outside. I just simply wet my hair apply leave in conditioner, and my Shea moisture curl enhancement cream and put a head band on and go. HOWEVER now that the temperature is dropping and the fact that I have to wear hats I have tried a couple other styles to protect my hair so to speak. I'm not great at any style yet, but I'm getting there.

New Hair Do's

I have been spending lots of time trying out new hair do's. Because of my length some style have turned out great and some NOT so great. I have a couple of pictures I will post with explanation of what I did. and the products I used.

My FRO HAWK

Here is a couple of my fro hawk pictures. Sorry I took these pics on my way to work  :)

Fro Hawk

Since my hair is about 4-5 inches now I decided to try different styles. I began searching online for different styles of Fro hawks and came across this one that really caught my attention. I love her fro because that bright red. So this gave me a little inspiration to try this style on myself.

Winter Head Gear

Winter is approaching and that means its time to whip out the hats gloves and scarves. My own problem is most the hats I wear either mat my hair or looks funny because of my thick beautiful natural hair underneath. Even though my hair is still fairly short I am searching online for nice beanies, brims and tams. I found a couple I think would be really cute. I looked on dreadhat.com and rastaproduct.com so far. I am hoping to get one of these sometime this week.

What types of hats do you rock in the winter time. Any good site, please share :)

Types of Protective Styles

Many natural ladies wear protective hairstyles to promote hair growth, and minimize stress and manipulation to the hair. It is also great to wear protective hairstyles in the winter time to protect your hair from being damaged from the cold weather. Common protective hairstyles consist of Braids, Twist, Buns, Updo's, Wigs, Headwraps, and weave. Which do you prefer?

Reflections of ME!!!!!

As a young child I had very loose curls. My hair easy for my mom to manage as an youngster, because my hair was not very thick.  As I got older my hair had become more wavy. I never quite had curls just really wavy puffy hair.  My mom kept me and my sister hair in braids, always our natural hair. Me and my sister both had really long beautiful hair, but my hair was extremely thick, and very hard for my mom to manage as I got older. My mom continued to style my hair with braids ponytails anything she could to keep it as manageable as possible. I didn't wear my hair down because it would poof and get extremely tangled. So when I was in middle school 7th grade my mom decide it would be best for me to get a perm. Once I was relaxed It was much more manageable for her to style my hair. To us having long straight easy to do hair was the best. And I have never had any problems with the perm breaking my hair off or having any hair damage due to relaxing my hair. I did go natural twice before I went natural this year, but didn't know what to do with it once it reached a certain length. I am not very excited to have get to know my natural texture once again.

Hair Inspirations

I love love LOVE Janelle Monae hair and her style. I can't wait until my hair has more lengths for me to style it like this.

I have always loved Tracee Ellis Ross curls. Her hair is so thick and beautiful!!!!!

Grace Mahary hair is GORGEOUS :)

Braids Braids Braids

I am currently wearing braids right now as a protective hairstyle. Here is a couple of pics. Enjoi !!!!!!

Products I swear by

I have only tried a few products but once I found these I can't get enough. I usually wet my hair in the morning apply my Neutrogena leave in conditioner first.

Then I section my hair in small sections and apply Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing

and seal with my natural tea tree oil. I love this product because it really make my curls stand out and minimize frizziness. I'm still learning what works well for my hair, and trying to develop a great regimen to follow. I would love to know what others use that gives great results. Any recommendations are well appreciated.

Protective Hair Styles

At the moment I am wearing braids as my protective hairstyle, since winter is approaching. I would LOVE to know what other natural ladies do to there hair in the winter time, and what protective styles you rock?

Nothing but NAILS

I also LOVE nails. I always keep my nails done, and I am constantly trying to learn different techniques as well as trying to master them. I have created a little NAIL STUDIO at my home that I will be using to do my nails, friends and family members. I am also planning on going to cosmetology school to get my manicuring license, but things are not working in my favor as of now. But my dream is to open my own salon one day :-) Here is a sneak peak at my unfinished nails studio, nail polish display and rack I made from scratch. Tell me what you think!!!

My Hair Texture

I my hair texture seems to be a mix between 3b and 3c

A litte 2 month grow not much but enuf for me :)

Welcome Back

After transitioning for about 2-3 months I did the big chop in August and welcomed my hair with open arm

My Natural Reflection :)

When I look in the mirror I love what I see. I am happy with the decisions I have made in throughout my life, especially my decision to embrace my natural textured hair; becoming natural. This is actually my 3rd time going natural. I went natural back in 2004 and was natural for about 6 month before relaxing my hair again, and my second time going natural was right after I had my son in 2007 but didn’t have the time or resources to help me with additional styling and products to use. And then I did it again. August 20th 2010 I decided to do the big chop once and for all, and I have to say this time I KNOW I have mad the right decision. I was a little hesitant about my decision and wasn’t sure of it but just went for it, and once I seen my texture again I feel in love with MYSELF for the first time.  It helped a lot with my sister also being natural so I have a very close natural buddy who I can go to for tips, techniques and support. I hope you all enjoy my natural reflection.
